I am looking really hard at the new Minn Kota Ulterra and wanted to see if anyone has one yet who could provide a few of the pros/cons for crappie fishing. It seems like a sweet unit and basically it would help me out on the days I fish by myself and also relieve a lot of my back pain.

It has been a big hit. I must say though with crappie fishing the only time I would use the spot lock anchor feature is when I am bringing in a fish to measure, weight and put in the live well or re tying a jig. This will keep you from blowing way off your mark while performing said task. Other than that I would use the foot pedal as it will hold you closer to your mark than the anchor feature although the latest software enhancements to the i-Pilot have proven to hold much tighter to your mark than the past software. The self, stow and deploy is a great feature and will be very beneficial for pack pain.

Assuming you meant 'back pain'? Nice try to sell me one but you already got all my money for awhile.

I agree with David that the 'Spot Lock' is not as exact as needed to stay on a BP but you can do it with the remote (I didn't like MK foot pedal bc it seemed slow). I have a bad back as well and the deploy/stow feature would help a lot and may make fishing more manageable. If you get one, you can't go wrong with buying from Shut Up and Fish. He is a good guy and will do you right. thumb

Just what I was told by a salesman when I went in to look.
They are having trouble with the deploy system on these(?).

The issue has been resolved a month ago and production has resumed. The demand is very high and they are only sending two units out to each dealer and distributor at a time.

I've heard very few positive comments on the Spot Lock feature. Most find that it won't hold you still enough to fish brush in the wind.

I was taught if I don't have something positive to say, then keep my mouth shut...but when it comes to an investment of this size....just sayin.

I'm waiting for the 45" shaft models to start to be delivered. Kind of a disappointment that they would market they are not shipping!
I really need the auto deploy/retract feature, the rest I'll learn to adapt to I guess. The "Spot Lock" feature would be useful to hold you in the general vicinity while you are performing other tasks like David stated.

Thanks for the update.
Like Tboxfish, the auto deploy and retract would be very helpful.
