As of today lake Lewisville is releasing over 5000 CFS from their dam. My question which lake benefits from this release?

If there is water...I will find the fish in it

Don't know about any lakes, but Frasier Dam on the Elm Fork, in Irving will sure benefit! The water runs strong, the big sandies and hybrids come out to play, Water slows to a trickle, as it did Saturday, and all species go back into hibernation! Come on rain and keep those floodgates open! Last week I cleaned up on magnum sand bass and one huge crappie. Water was roaring! By Saturday afternoon, it was a trickle coming over, and although I caught 9 different species of fish, only three were keepers: Black bass, Sand bass, Yellow Bass, Crappie, Longear Sunfish, Bluegill, Freshwater Drum, Longnose Gar, and Channel Cat. The Channel went right around 3 lbs, the biggest Sandie went about 13 inches, and the biggest Drum was in the 8 lb range. Biggest gar was pushing 4 ft in length, have no idea on weight.

All fish caught on 1/8th oz curly tail grubs, chartreuse, with red jig heads--WalMart Economy Pack specials. 8 lb. test line, Medium Action Spinning gear.

I think eventually it ends up in Livingston. But I don't know that for sure.

It goes down the Elm Fork, to the main Trinity, then southward. Before any fish can get that far, they have to be washed over three dams/spillways, Sandy Lake, California Crossing, then Frazier Dam. There are countless numbers of quality fish that never get beyond those 3 dams. Which makes the fishing fairly excellent for us river rats.

Remember, Elm Fork gets fed fish from Lewisville, and Grapevine, and by default, Ray Roberts, via Lewisville. It is an amazing and excellent fishery. If you can eat fish out of those three lakes, you can eat out of Elm Fork, between Lewisville Dam, and the three Dams i mentioned earlier. I caught these last week BEFORE the flow slowed to a trickle on Saturday:

Caught these in about 30 minutes:

Caught better variety on Saturday lot less water, and fish quality was not good. Too many dinks.

Heading out there in about 10 minutes, water was ROARING again late last night when I crossed the 183 bridge, so there should be some more fish down there.

Hey Rudy Nice Catch!! Once I was down there and saw some guys on the other side with a vehicle. How were they able to get in there? Do you have any idea?

came in off 35 on ramp southbound from Harry Hines. All that has been sealed off by the city of dallas. No more entrance through there. they are serious, new gates, concrete barricades, several of them.

That window has closed, lol

Water is way too rough right now for sandies crappie etc. With right gear it should be ideal for BIG CATS. Carp, gar, buffalo, drum lining shoreline by the hundreds right now, huge ones! I got drum, buffalo and gar to hit curly tail grubs but no game fish today. Just got back from there about half hour ago,

Scroll up a bit and you can see what it looked like last week, This is what it looked like about 2 hours ago:

A significant difference in water flow

Here is one of the buffalo that took my curly tail grub:

Tough to get gamefish to bite in this kind of water.

MAN! that looks like a nice area to fish from the kayak! what is the easiest spot to get the yak to the water? was plannin on getting out there this weekend. is the water high enough to navigate in a kayak or is it best to just walk it?

Right now it is too high and rough for kayak. Only easy access pt would be below California crossing and fishing your way downstream. Long paddle, but doable.

At this dam and at California crossing, these color heads seem to work best. You will notice the buffalo was caught on an UNPAINTED jig head.

The COE lets water out to bring the lake back to its conservation pool. That way it can have its entire flood pool available for flood control. The other reason eater is released is to supply downstream water intakes....but they do not release at that high of level for water releases.

Very large blue and channel cats taken yesterday. Big cats LOVE turbulent, churning,"kill a man strong" currents. It is like a cafeteria/buffet line for them. Present a bait and they will pounce on it!

Go getcha some!

Three of the fish in the ice chest are blues. The yellowish one is a "small" flathead. The big girl in the solo pic is a 14 lb bllue. Caught on fresh shad, two separate whales broke off. One broke a 20 lb test, the other 25 lb. test! Caught by former neighbor but still good friend Mario, and his fishing buddy Johnny. Between 5 pm and darkWednesday, May 6, 2015.

THE FABULOUS ELM FORK--GOTTA LOVE IT!

Rudy
