I will be taking out the new boat to Granger Lake Friday and Saturday. I was wondering if anybody has any reports on the fishing here lately? We will mainly be targeting yellow cats, but really would like to just get whatever is biting. We have live goggle eye for the yellow cats, and I was thinking about using cut mud cats for catching blues. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

I'd try shad if you can get em for blues

I cant get shad. We have stock ponds full of mud cats and I figured because they are such a bloody fish, they would make good cut bait.

Live mudcats are great flathead bait.

You know Ive used live mudcats several times on Granger, but haven't had much luck with them. Weve got so many of them though that its just easy to use them.

I always read this and from personal experience trotlining/throw lining the brazos, Guadalupe and most all lakes I have fished I can say sunfish have by far out produced mudcats.

I would leave the mudcats alone and fish live and cut perch.

To heck with the mud cats , pretty goggle eyes about hand size are the best !

We caught some nice yellow cats up the river on perch last weekend. If you got a cast net, find you some shad on the lake. Something else works good on those blues, carp. Catch you a carp and cut that bad boy up for bait. I will say this, the biggest blue cat we ever caught on the San Gabriel River was on cut carp.

whats best and whats easiest are usually not the same thing. Shad is best, perch next. Carp in there somewhere.

I agree with best/easiest comparison. But I have no way of getting shad, so its on to the easiest.

A cast net will pay for itself in a couple trips.

Just out of curiosity, how much stock do yall put into the fishing reports that are on the tpwd website?

Almost none. I've seen a lot of their catfish reports say fair to good or whatever on chicken liver, shrimp, or nightcrawlers.

All baits I haven't used in years and sounds like channel cat guys giving the reports. Nothing wrong with channel cat but I'm usually looking for big blues and flathead.
