I'm wondering how long most wait, after a heavy rain like we have been having around DFW, to get back out on the water and try to catch crappie - and actually catch'em? I've been told it takes a week or so after heavy rains, but this seems excessive. What do you think?

Also, does the lake make any difference - assuming all get about the same amount of rain run off?

Thanks in advance!

iv been fishing Garpevine Twin Coves boat slips every day for 3 months! they were biting like crazy until that 1st big rain we had and then they shut off for 1 week, just started to bite again and here came the next big rain that filled the lake with muddy water and debris.that was 2 weeks ago and iv still not had 1 bite! lake is up to normal and water temp was 72 today, almost cleared up water color. going deep tomorrow.

hawghoover - that's my experience also so far. Went today from 1-3 PM and caught three small ones; three different species: one 6 inch crappie; one large brim, and one small (2.5 inches) perch! But I can say I did not get skunked!

So, do you have any thoughts about how long to wait?

Yep....through the weekend. Just when you start locating fish the heavens open up again.

My theory has always been: I'm going fishing any chance I can get, no matter the conditions. Then I'll know what those conditions did to the fishing I was doing that day wink Don't worry about waiting, just pay attention to what happened the day you were fishing.

Best advice is never stop fishing. Fishing in the rain is as good as it gets and can be a shocking experance too.

Hey when your number is called you got to go anyways, might as well go out on the water!

Just ask Stucky, I broke him from a boat Ho with me.

Some of my better days have been when no one else was on the lake due to rain. Just fish and stop worrying about whether or not the blue birds are singing smile

Appreciate the input from everyone. However, I am wondering about the effects of all the run off causing water quality to decline. When this happens, does anyone put off going fishing for several days?
