I am looking at a used boat that is a '99 200 Yamaha Vmax EFI. It has had a new power head installed with the phase 2 kit. Is this something that I should be leary of? I don't know much about the inner workings of the engines.

Phase 2 kit is a performance modification kit. It usually has higher compression head and other things to boost horsepower.

higher compression means more power until you get some less than quality fuel an then you are back to rebuild time.

I would probably have it checked out by a mechanic just to double-check the repair job was done correctly and there are no latent issues.

The real question would be what made the first Powerhead pop. If that wasn't fixed, then it could happen again. The 0x66's are pretty tough. Is it a Hydrotech phase 2 kit? Who did the work? What other documentation is there for all the maintenance stuff? When was the last time the injectors were cleaned and calibrated?
