Does anyone know what the three beep alarm means on a Suzuki motor?

It's a 2012 DF200 with 185 hours. I've never had a bit of trouble with it. Had been running around fishing for about 5 hours with no problems and decided to head in. Eased out of a cove, got up on plane and it just died. Wouldn't start and every attempt was followed by three beeps. Had plenty of gas and the kill switch was in place.

Dropped it off at the dealer and they called saying it started right up and it showed no error codes on the computer diagnosis. They're going to run it in the tank and at the lake today.

Any ideas as to what happened?

Did they tell you what the 3 beep code was for? If they don't know, you need a better repair facility! ....I used to know what it was but am drawing a blank right now, dang-it. It's possible (but I could be wrong) that the 3-beep code is the early warning that it's time for an oil change. (Check the manual.) If that is what the 3-beep code signals, then it was simply coincidental to your run issue.

They said it was the oil change code. They said the engine error codes would include flashes on the tach, but unfortunately I didn't see any.

I really hope they find something because it will make me uneasy venturing out. I got lucky that day because I launched from a different boat ramp about a mile from where it died and I used the trolling motor to get in. I normally launch at the other end of the lake 7 miles away.

Dealer never could duplicate the issue. Had them do a normal service while it was there. Ran fine first time out, but it did it again on the second trip. Once again it started right up for the dealer and they couldn't duplicate the problem. No error codes were recorded. Suzuki said it has something to do with the VST, which sounded like a vapor lock issue. Solution was to bypass a vent line from the VST. I didn't like that answer and neither did the dealer. I told the dealer to put a Yamaha on it. The dealer is being good about it and I'll pay the difference in MSRP price, which I think is fair.

What do you guys think I should upgrade to? Yamaha 3.3L 225, 4.2L 225 Offshore, or a SHO 250 (the new 25" shaft version)?

I would go with the SHO as they have gotten most of the bugs out.

Three beeps at startup is a diagnosis test pass, three spaced beeps is an oil alarm, constant beep is a high temp alarm....on my 95 Merc 150 with a commander control.

I had a car once that would play tricks on me like this, so I told the mechanic to keep it and us it until it happened. It ended up being a lifter seat that would pop out when hot and would slip back in and run fine at the mechanic shop. If you trust the mechanic or know a retired certified mechanic with some time on his hands.

Kind of expensive to replace, but getting stranded can be a bad thing, especially on the coast. A second small motor might be a excuse purchase as you debug the issue.

Just to throw a bug in your decision, If you are thinking of upgrading look at TOHATSU they merged there marketing with Honda . They sell motors all the way up to 250's and it come with everything you need to install it. It comes with a 5 year warranty from TOHATSU not a aftermarket like some
Right know they are giving a huge discount
Or you can buy a SHO Yamaha for about $5000 more, That is a heck of a savings
I have seen testing between the 2 on exact same boats and the TOHATSU out performed the Yamaha
