The Sand Bass bite is pretty good in normal patterns right now. Shallow early deep later. Everyone has been taking advantage of the spillway right now. It will shut down soon. But the fishing is great. Hybrid fishing is great.

Sorry, didn't address the Crappie. The Crappie fishing has been good as well. Crab Creek area has been really good. The Wilderness has been good as you can get further back with the water level up. The water is on the rise daily at Chambers and that's the only thing that makes it difficult. But, there is lots of grass in the shallows where there has not been water in years.

Are they letting you fish behind the spillway like they did years ago?

No the spillway or waterfall, whichever it's called, is the water inlet that is pumped from across the road into the lake. It's pumped across what would look like concrete steps giving it a waterfall or spillway appearance.

I actually came in from the main lake. I caught several in the creek but they were not shallow. In any type of cover 6-8 fow. But that was the pattern on most lakes. The shallow bite has been hit or miss with the weather this year and all the fresh water.

I didn't even pay attention to the ramp. But with the water level being what it is, there is no reason it shouldn't be open.

I assume you are talking about the Cheneyboro Ramp.
It's only about 6' deep in that little creek and 3-4' in general, so with the lake only 3 1/2' low you might be able to get in. Haven't even tried in 4 years. Trip down the lake is very do-able right now though. That is always a very productive part of the lake though.

Hey EW ! The last time I payed a visit to Cheneyboro Ramp which was a couple weeks ago, there was not enough water to float a wine cork.It had grown up so you couldn't even put a boat in it.The water was a couple hundred yards away!

Re: Chenyborro Ramp
Unless water has come up in the last few days, don't think you can put a boat in. Did some driving around last weekend and your safest bets are still Oak Cove and they are putting boats in again on the south side at Fishermans Point again. I wonder if the ramp at Mattie Caston will ever see boat traffic . Still a LOT of areas are just weeds and dirt.

I looked on a map of the lake and it shows a ramp at crab creek. It is not Chenyborro Ramp. Thanks for help. Any reports this week on the lake? Trying to go if the rain let up this coming week.

Well, there's your answer! lol!
Kinda what I was afraid of.
I don't know of any public ramp on Crab Creek, but like I said...I haven't tried to launch a boat over there in years. Maybe a private ramp on Crab though. You can probably get a small jon or 2-man boat in where the creek crosses the county road.

I am about 99.99999 percent sure... (only cause I haven't slept in few days...finals) there is both a crab creek boat ramp and a cheyneyboro...of course cheyneyboro is down south off 45 kinda...and crab creek boat ramp is off 287 closer to Mildred area..I will find it if not drive and take and pic...need to fish anyway!

Maybe some of this confusion is centered around creek names. Let me try to clear it up.
Keep in mind that RC can basically be split into 3 parts: the Chambers Creek arm, the Richland Creek arm, and the large main lake East of where they both join. Grape and Crab are smaller feeder creeks that run from an area South of Corsicana into Richland Creek on it's north shoreline...between the railroad bridges and the split of the two main creeks join. That part of the lake was all timber when it was impounded, and has less open water. Great fishing, but harder to access. When the lake is 10-11' low, like it has been the past few years, both those creeks are 75% dry. Neither has ever been developed much(houses, Ramos, etc.)
"To my knowledge" (and I have fished the lake since it was impounded) the only public boat ramp in that area is Cheneyboro, which is pretty much only usable when the lake is full. There are small county roads back in there that will get you to the lake, and some "walk-in" bank fishing spots do exist. For the most part though, if you want to access those areas you will need to make a run down the main lake.
Hope that clears things up a bit.

EW
