Wondering if the experts could post some pics with ID.

Longnose, Shortnose, Spotted, Florida, Gator. Are all native to TX?

Thanks
Fitz

This kind of got off track I appreciate the ID but was looking for examples of the mentioned fish from lakes and rivers in TX. Or just post your trophies.

Maybe it's the lighting or camera angle but that guy looks sort of melanistic. If it is in fact black in color then it is a very rare fish. There was recently a black gator gar caught on the TV show Swamp People.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Google has pics of all species of Texas Gar. I look over them frequently. This fish in question looks like a spotted gar. Here's a page on TPWD which list all species:

Thanks Dmunsie, I've done the google image thing too. Just like seeing fish from different water bodies and how their colors can change depending on location.

Anyway, if people have some pics to share that would be great.

I don't have a problem with someone bowfishing carp or gar as long as they either do it for food or at least for bait for another species IE catfish. To just do it for the killing and letting it go to waste is a big problem with me.

The nice thing about fishing is there is such thing as catch and release whereas hunting has no such option unless you are shooting with a camera instead of a gun.

If you all are still wondering, we ate the gar. Anyhow, my buddy and I headed out to catch either a longnose or spotted to help you better identify them. My buddy ended up catching a spotted.

Notice how the top of the body has alot of very visible dark spots. This is known as a spotted gar. I posted some pictures before of some alligator gar seeing how nobody else would help you out by posting some pics. However I didn't know about the bow fishing rule and they got deleted. I hope these pics help.
