Im traveling to cancun this week just wanted to ask of any advice!

I have a 3pc spinning rod , and a 4 pc fly rod that I was thinking to bring with me, Im planning to bring them on my check in suitcase since the airline wants to charge $40 each round trip if I check in the rods.

so is it worth it ?

I wish I'd have seen this post earlier. I took my bass-capable 7 ft spinning gear to the Cancun surf last year at this time. Started throwing a 4" banana colored sassy shad with a 1.5oz jig head into the waves standing ankle deep. I could see jack crevalle silhouetted from time to time in the breakers. Don't waste your time fishing during the day--go early morning or late evening. The first fish almost spooled me until I tightened the drag--one more nice run and my line popped. Same thing with another fish, this time he didn't let me even tighten the drag. I tried other baits afterward but should have brought more sassies--I just didn't know to bring them and had limited packing space for the trip. Take no less than 20lb test. My gear was totally outclassed. Next time it will be a different story....

Well well well !

It when okay i was able to bring my rods with no problem, I was not able to bring anything in from the beach days after we took a snorkeling trip to Isla Mujeres and I was troling a chattertterbait and when I try to set the hook i just hear the pop there goes my chatterbait a barracuda took it, according to the guide that's the fish that rules around that area, then I rig a spoon and hook one the barracuda start taking line and I reel it in but he keep on taking more line faster then i can reel it, then barracuda change directions and strip all the line from my reel when I start to bring more line he snap and took all the line from my reel, the line was still floating and we got it back and i was able to spool it back in the reel fight the barracuda for like 10 seconds more and the fish snap the line ...

and That was my fishing experience when!

after that we procced to the snorkeling

I go to the pacific side of Mexico and Costa Rica and Always bring gear. I usually have 20 to 30 pound braid due to the strength and teeth of the fish. Some popping corks have tough line on them and I attach those to the and and it seems to work, I have caught some good fish and it is really fun most planes just let us take our rods in 2 pieces and put them in the coat closet on the plane. It really is some fun fishing. I do always bring a cast net in the bottom of my suitcase but be careful, once they ran it through the x ray machine in Costa Rica and had to call the dogs in lol.

I only fish on days that end in Y!
