What: RISE Adventures provides outdoor activities for disabled people and their families (100% free to them). These are people whose physical and financial constraints prevent them from participating in outdoor activities.

When: Saturday, May 30th (8AM until approx 2PM)

Where: Grapevine Lake (Meadowmere Park)

Who: we need volunteers with kayaks, or all types, but especially tandem kayaks

Why: This is not only a good way to give back to the community, but also one of the most rewarding experiences I've had as a kayaker. We help provide kayak rides for physically and mentally impaired people of all ages (and their family members too). I've brought my teenager daughter to one of these, and as a result, her perspective on life changed drastically. These folks' lives are filled with challenges doing things we mostly take for granted; you will walk away from this event knowing you made a difference in someone's life. Here are a few pics from previous RISE events...

I know you guys will be disappointed, the lake is only 2 feet low now so we won't be stacking rocks to support the plywood and falling off in the hole at the end of the ramp...

Mariner Sails is looking forward to bringing tandem kayaks the RISE Adventures Spring Fest.

On a personal note . . . the Spring Fest, on May 30th, will be my last official duty as a proud staff member of Mariner Sails. As of June 1st, I will be officially retired. The plan is to resume my "civilian pimping duties" by putting out good words, support, and accolades for the 100% absolute best paddle sports store in the world. Also planning to volunteer time and services to say thank you and try put something back into the community that has blessed me for many years.

Mike, congrats on the extra free time!!! Does this make Dave the official crotchety old man now?

Hope the lake gets back to normal pool before then, it is 6.15 feet high and still rising.
