A while ago I wanted to get my girlfriend a new custom rod with reel for cats...mostly so I can have my pro anglers back on my yak where they belong. Hahaha. Nelson custom rods was the local guy that Aris said was great. I contacted him, he met me at mariner sails. I am a very picky dude when it comes to gear. Im very hard on everything always. Instantly when I saw him I was put at ease...he has a giant beard. Hahaha. I showed him the type of blank I wanted. Shook hands and that was it. After a couple weeks I get a call from him saying the blank had arrived but it was not the same as what I wanted. This also made me feel like I had made the best choice in having him build this rod. Not just pumping rods out but truly listening to his customers needs and making it happen. The new blank had come in and it was bad too the bone...perfect. my girlfriend picked colors, we gave him a mercury dime to stick in the butt and while he was at it...spiral wrap the guides. After leaving we were so stoked to get this rod! After some time he calls and says its ready, I dropped what I was doing and had to get it asap. It was beautiful, amazing ....etc...I cant put it in words. We all know sometimes rods or gear feels good in the store but not in real life on the water. Well now we have used it several times and it casts like a dream. I can cast half the spool of line off the abu 6500, seated! No monsters on it yet but we are gonna tough test it this weekend in the gulf. It simply put is perfect. Walker Nelson goes above and beyond. Thank you for being just as picky as me, building my girlfriends dream rod and getting me an almost unlimited supply of brownie points. Thank you. I wish I could post pics.

Haha! I'm glad my giant beard put you to ease.....I mean, it is just a manly security blanket:D No but seriously thanks Christian for the shout out, and to Aris for connecting us! I do everything I can to make sure I build these to specs... Sometimes the blanks look right on paper , but are wrong for the application once I can test it. But one of the best compliments to a builder is knowing the efforts are worth it....and giant fish pics!! Really appreciate the shout out and kinds words brother! Looking forward to doing many more!! It was a fun build...Here are some pics...For a bass guy, this thing is a beast!
