Shallow that is
Belinda & I went out mid-morning yesterday. Stopped at a laydown in 20fow and stuck our 1st fish, then nothing else wanted to play.
Idled into the 1st cove that we had found shallow fish in earlier in the spring and Belinda instantly caught a good'un
It was fast action there!!!!!
But there was a trick to catching them......they did not want a jig floating under a cork at all!
They would bump the lure, but not grab it and sink the cork like they had been doing.
I had taken 2 - 14' rods to get back into the flooded jungle.
We were using them and you had to lower the bait down to the bottom and when you raised it, they would slam the bait and take off running.
They didn't like the bait down in their beds.
Although there is a lot of lily pads and flooded brush, all our fish were caught in the little groups of spiked grass.
After it slowed down in that cove, we went off to search some more areas.....I'm still learning Lake Fork and although I have
a couple of other areas that we've caught shallow fish in, I was wanting to find some more.
We caught 1 here & 1 there after leaving the 1st cove and never did end up finding another
"SWEET SPOT".
Ended up with 19 in the box, none under 11's.... Our newly imposed self size limit....
All fish but 2 were caught on the new Strawberry Seed Banana Slab Bug.
Belinda has a few things to take care of in the shop for customers and after I recoup from holding that long rod,
we'll be back on the water to search some more
If you see that your lure is getting bumped, but not taken, try lowering it down on a long rod and slowly picking it up
Good luck everybody & BE SAFE! With the higher lake levels, there are a lot of HAZARDS just under the surface now!!!!!
