Anyone fish chambers regularly? The wife and I have been fishing out of kayaks for the past 2 years in rivers and small lakes like Lake halbert! We're ready to hit Chambers and some other lakes for whites, hybrids and stripes! Any success and some ideas on good spots? We have one spot we can launch around pelican Island that I know use to be good fishing!

Thanks for any info and are hoping to see more Yak's on the water!

with lake levels approaching normal around pelican should be good again this yr.
chambers is pretty big. you definately want to watch the weather closely. always check before you head out. best to pay and park. free parking out there will just get you broke in to ;-/

Thanks for the info! I Know it use to be good fishing in that area. My uncle lives in that cove so I have good access and if it gets rough just head back in. I would be a touch worried about going across the lake and the wind getting up! How rough of water have you been in or comfortable in? In a kayak!

Thanks

I used to do some dock fishing out there...I really had no luck during the day but during the night it was catfish after catfish. There was a little private pond just right next to the cove I was at though that had some huge bass.

Good yak fishing at R.C. Put in at Harbor over by the Shores. You will have a good size creek/cove that has crappie and catfish in it as well as sandbass. A quick paddle to the main lake on the points hold great sandbass and hybrid fishing early in the morning! Also you can anchor on the point with a good South wind and fill your cooler with eater blues. Now that the lake is up there is a hump (used to be a island) to your left on the main lake as you go out of the cove. Good fishing there also! I fish all this area with a pontoon boat. Going to get a yak very soon! Good luck!

We played in grapevine once in 40 mile winds.
Ran baits out during sharkathon is some knawly weather.
Last attempt I barely got off the beach and said ive had enough.
Playing In It and gettin caught out in foul weather with your pants down
R completely different though.
B careful, Chambers can get hairy!

Fishing from a kayak takes a little bit of common sense! Think about how fast you can paddle or peddle a kayak. Then think about paddling or peddling into a a strong wind minus fighting the waves when the wind is equal to or twice that of your top speed....What does that tell you?
Going out with the wind at your back is fine, but what happens when you have to return into that wind?
Also think about your loved ones, and also think about those who might have to come out and rescue your dumb bass.
Fishing from a kayak requires some planning about where can you fish and get out of the wind in protected areas. It means paying close attention to the weather reports and maybe searching for other put in and take out areas that can be sheltered depending on wind direction.
Fishing in rough water is totally possible, but it still takes some thought and attention to a kayakers main aversary and that is the wind.

Just one more cast!
