Well I made my first trip to the coast with some friends. The gf and I took the Ride 135 and Pescador 12 but I left my new PA12 at home. We got down Friday afternoon and our friends already had their rods set up on the beach (they didn't bring yaks). They finally talked me into running bait out for them but I made my first BTB with no gear just incase I turtled. It went smooth and surprisingly easy. The breaks were only around 3 feet and I'm sure that's a light day but for a fresh water lake guy they looked huge. lol. I got out past the breakers and it was nice rolling waves. Now someone should have warned me how much fun surfing the waves back in was. I had a blast coming in riding each waving until the Ride 135 was nosed into the sand and I was sad it was over. I grabbed the line they wanted taken out and one of the guys little zebcos to try to catch bait fish. The second time was just as quick as the first time getting out. I dropped the line where he wanted and paddled further out. I was baiting my hook when I looked up and all I could see was a wall of water. A wave that was 2 or more times higher than the other waves was coming straight at me but I got lucky because I was still straight with it. I went up and over, then the ride down was fun. I fished for a while with no luck so I got closer to the breakers and started getting hits. I caught 3 gafftop before it was getting to dark. Each time I caught one I drifted into the breakers and had to take turns fighting the fish and paddling to keep my nose straight and then back out of the breakers. Well the last one took way longer to get in and by the time I got it in and off the hook I was completely sideways in the middle of the breaks and a wave was headed straight at me. I couldn't get straight so I leaned into it and was hit with a wall of water. It felt like I was sunk under water with all the water that filled the boat. I just knew I was going to go over but to my surprise the Ride popped up with me still in it. All I could think was I love this boat! I surfed the waves in and that ended my Friday. My gf was laughing at me because she said I was grinning ear to ear surfing back in.

Saturday started with heavy storms so no fishing until it blew through at about 2-3pm. Me and the gf went to Christmas Bay to try some bay fishing. It was still very windy and we couldn't keep the boats in one place and fish. So I tied her boat to mine and mine to me I became the human anchor. lol. Other people were catching fish but with never having fished salt we didn't do so good. She caught a little croaker and I caught a sting ray. The sting ray kind of freaked me out when it first surfaced. I was expecting and good size fish not that thing. lol

All in all we still had fun.

Sounds like fun! If I can get past the idea of fish with teeth that can have me for lunch I would like to give it a try lol!

Sounds like you had a great time. I can imagine riding the waves would be a blast, good story and that's awesome that you caught a sting ray!
