It's been 2 years but I booked another weekend at Bluegill Lakes Cabins! Can't wait to go. Still 2 months away but I'm so excited I can't way. Whole family is going this time, should be a nice trip.

Has anybody been lately? I know the first I ever heard of it was Smithhaven's post.

My family went in October we had a great time. We stayed in the Barn. It has kind of a small dock to get many people on to fish but most all of us caught fish. We used drop shot and float rigs with white bread. But they will eat about anything. We tried hot dogs but couldn't get them to stay on the hook. I used worms too. The best fishing is done first thing in the morning and the evening. That's the way it went for us anyway. Good luck and have fun.

Ckwilson, I haven't been since before the barn was built. Is it on the same pond as the A-Frame and Roses Cabin?

No it's on it's own pond.

What a great trip. I'll admit, I did a poor job of picture taking, and have asked my family to send me what they have. I'll update with pictures later.

First off, Bluegill Lakes Cabins is a top notch outfit. The owners are great, the cabins are amazing, and we'll be going back next year. If you are hesitant to go, I HIGHLY recommend it if you're looking for a relaxing get away with excellent fishing.

We arrived Friday 6/26 (my 28th bday!)at about 11:00am to the A Frame Cabin (second time staying in this particular cabin). The lake water was up about 4' from our trip 2 years ago, and looked great! They have also added a railing on the deck and an outdoor shower (which is great because the bathtub inside is kinda small). My grandparents, dad, sister, and my wife and I were all comfortable in the cabin. We immediately started fishing for gills, but it was HOT out and the gill action was slow. Mostly smaller fish biting, so we switched to bass gear and caught about a dozen or so smaller bass on light tackle.

The gill bite really picked up in the evening, but the big ones were still slow to arrive. The owners came by and brought us a bucket of the feed they use for the gills, and that was the ticket. Once a handful of that stuff hit the surface, the water started boiling! Looked like piranha! We finished off the night enjoying the easy fishing, wondering if the big gills from 2 years ago were still there.

It rained all night and into early morning on Satruday, but by 6:30am it was just sprinkles here and there, so we hit the dock once again. Some bass on top waters, but the bigger gills still weren't there. We threw in some feed and watched the frenzy, catching a few. I was fishing along the side of the dock, tight up against the structure a few minutes after a feeding frenzy had finished and nailed my first bigger gill of the trip, about 8". I was standing at the end, swinging my line towards the other end and letting it dead drift the entire side of the dock, and then BAM! another one, and another, and another. It seemed like the bigger fish showed up after the feeding frenzy created by the smaller fish, and that held true for the rest of the trip. We'd feed the fish a few times a day, watch them eat and a few minutes later start catching the bigger ones tight against the dock, for an hour or so before they quit biting. We cleaned enough fish for a 6 person meal Saturday afternoon, but we caught a TON of quality gills up to 10".

Sunday morning we made a few casts, caught a few gills and bass before we packed up and headed home. Was a fantastic trip, and we'll be back for sure. Sorry for the long read, I'll try and get some pictures uploaded later today. There were a few catfish in the mix, including one that busted me off (no trip is complete without "the one that got away") and I managed one small crappie while in the boat fishing some submerged trees (oh ya, they have some small boats available). You won't regret staying here, it's worth it!
