This will be our first trip. Is the water level safe right now? I want to take her below pk for the 20 mile trip. But need to break her in first smile

Current Flow is showing 38 CFS, which is very, very little. It looks like it got up to 135cfs on the 27th, which isn't too bad.

Here's the link for the gauge down river of the Whitney so that you can monitor it before heading out: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/uv?site_no=08093100

As father of four children, all adults now, you seem to be doing it right. Break them in a little bit at a time until they are ready for a 20 mile trip.

Compared to below PK the Brazos below Whitney is a piece of cake. Yes there is enough water on any given day to float/fish/paddle much of the river with only a few shallow swctions that you will drag yak through.. The 8 mile float from the dam to Dick's Outpost is a very good test to see what you and your daughter can handle. Another nice option is to just float down from the dam to coon creek or about 3 miles then paddle back up to the dam. If there is a strong southern wind blowing the paddle back to the dam is easier then going down.. learned that the hard way..
