Which crankbaits go the deepest? I'm wanting to do alot of deep water fishing on Falcon this summer with crankbaits. I already have a some deep divers but still interested to see what you all say. Another thing,I am already looking to buy me a deep diver rod and reel combo so post up which rod you all think can handle these deep divers with ease. I was looking at a rod for this but it is not a glass rod. Can anyone tell me the difference besides the material. And last thing, many people, like Keith combs prefer a high gear ratio. Others prefer a slow one. Anyone care to share which they prefer and why? Thanks.

I use a 7'11" Shimano Cumara deep cranking rod and a 5:1 Curado

I use a Dobyns CB RM 8'0" rod with an old Curado Greenie B5. I prefer the slow gear ratio so it doesn't wear me out like Keith Combs does. I am trying to get a deflection off of cover/structure to get the reaction strike that Keith is reeling faster to get. They both have their plusses and minuses. I just prefer not to wear myself out. Deepest diving is the Mann's 30+ and the Strike King 10XD. Both will get in the 25 or so foot range on 10-12# test. On Falcon, like Fork, I would go with 17# McCoys Mean Green for my line. Stays good forever, STRONG and ABRASION RESISTENT and low memory. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Luhr Jensen Hot Lips Express 3/4oz, Mann's 30 plus and Strike King 10xd are the deepest diving ones

While @ the Classic in Greenville,I saw a deep diver...it was the one Skeet Reese debuted @ Falcon.....Can't remember the maker, maybe Spro. .but, it made the 10X look small...Do a google search on it and, if you have the stones to throw it...get it and let us know how it went....

Thanks everyone I appreciate all this info. I myself have some hot lips, a few of the deep divers that 6th sense makes, some 6XDs, and some of the deep divers acadamy makes. I am currently looking at the shimano cuamara CUC711MH. Can anyone else further explain to me the main difference between using a glass rod for deep cranks vs using a composite or a graphite rod? Thanks. Really wanting to know as much on this before I make a purchase being that I dont have a job anymore and I am a full time college student. Thanks.

I prefer a graphite rod so I can feel what the crank is doing all the time. It is more sensitive than the glass rods. The glass rods are more limber and parabolic in nature, so you are not supposed to lose a bunch of fish with them, as the rod absorbs that runs. Using graphite, I just set my drag a little looser and let the fish run with the drag system, since that is what it is designed to do. Composite gives you a little bit of both worlds. More flexible and a little lighter weight than a full glass rod. Two major brands of this variety are the BPS Crankin' Stik and the KVD cranking stick. I still prefer graphite, MH with a fast tip and just back the drag off a little bit so you don't pull the hooks out of the fishes mouth on big runs by a big fish. Hope this helps.

Thad Rains It really does help, I appreciate it. I ended up buying the shimano cuc711mh because I felt i was getting a good deal. I can't wait to receive it. Now all I need is a speed spool in a low gear.
