Wow, what a beast. Biggest fish ever caught in the state of Oklahoma. Wonder how many bass are on the menu? smile

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation shared this on its Facebook page today:

"Snagged from Lake Texoma, this 8 ft. alligator gar weighed 254 pounds with a girth of 44 inches and is the largest fish ever caught in Oklahoma waters. Not only is this a massive fish, but it is also a very special and unique fish. Alligator gar are long-lived with only periodic spawning opportunities.

Anglers should be aware:

• May 1-May 31: angling for alligator gar by any method (including bowfishing and snagging) is prohibited between the State HWY 99/US Hwy 377 bridge upstream to the Interstate 35 bridge.

• During the permitted season, the daily limit is one alligator gar. • Anglers should avoid handling gar by the gills as this can injure the fish.

• Anglers must report harvest of alligator gar to ODWC (580-924-4087)."

Unless that guy is taller than Shaq that fish does not look like 8ft long. Could just be the picutre though.

Just reporting what ODWC reported on its Facebook page.

Someone mentioned on their FB page that the table was an eight-footer, but maybe it isn't.

At any rate, I'd guess (hope) that they would have verified the measurements before posting them.

"In the Falcon study, bass made up 8 percent of the gar’s diet, 10 percent were catfish, 3 percent were freshwater drum and 2 percent were crappie. More than 75 percent of the fish identifiable in gar stomachs were rough fish — common carp, blue tilapia and gizzard shad."

Yeah it does, measure your reach from finger tip to finger tip, that fish is way outside what that guys would be.

^^^ This ^^^

Arm span is generally close to 6'; this fish is probably pretty close to the advertised 8'.
