So Ive been hitting Falcon pretty hard lately and have been blessed with some really nice Fish... No 10lb fish just yet. I have seen some big girls hooked on crankbaits this past week, and watched them come up and shake head and out she spits the bait.

If it was in open water I imagine you could just let them run but in the timber, you have to horse some... It was suggested to replace my standard hooks on my Strike King's and normans to possibly Triple grip hooks etc.

Thoughts please?

And if ur fishing shallow crank with a limber rod using 50lb braid. U will really be able to drive the bigger hooks into those falcon bass with this set up. That's what my brother used when we went down and he had much better landing percentage than us and was able I move fish away from timber quick

I like the VMC short round bend. Tuffer (thicker wire) than KVD Mustads, that is why I like them. There is a specific Gammy hook, I dis remember which one, but t is like a $1/hook that also work well. Hope this helps.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

KVD short shank - might be a reason he uses them. I know this doesn't apply in Texas but we take a trip to Canada every year for smallmouth and my dad will loose 1 out of 3 on crankbait as they throw the hook. I might loose 1 out of 10 with the KVD hooks, I will say they aren't the most durable but if you are fishing for money I wouldn't use anything else.

I like triple grips, but honestly you need to have round bends aswell, your hook up ratio is going to be less with the triple grips if they are just slapping at the bait. I usually have 2 of each bait built up one with round bend one with triple grips. I always start off with the round bends and if they are really eating the crank good I will change out to the triple grips for better holding power.
