We (Clean Water Lures) are organizing a soft plastics collection day across the country that will take place on June 14, 2015. We would like a presence at the following lakes in Texas: Falcon Lake, Choke Canyon, Lake Amistad, Sam Rayburn, Ray Hubbard, Toledo Bend, Lake Fork, Lake Austin
Each volunteer will be given a collection bin for each lake. Each volunteer will set up a location somewhere on the lake (the location is decided by the volunteer - preferably a boat ramp or dock/marina). Each volunteer will receive the collection bin by June 1. The goal is to catch anglers as they leave the their boats and collect their old soft plastics either from that day or whatever they would like to give. Your shipping costs to ship the plastics to us will be covered.
Each volunteer will be given 250 color flyers and a collection bin. What do we do with these plastics? We recycle them into new lures and GIVE a pack of baits for every pack sold.
Please PM me if you can help us!

All this work to help you start your business. Lol!!! I got a idea for you. Get a hold of Skeeter boats . Go to there owners tournament and tell everyone that is there an participating to donate there used soft plastics . If you could pour a couple hundred bags to give away it would also be good advertising . And you might get a lot of people to start saving there soft plastics to sell to you in the future. But as for working for free it ain't happening!!!!

Jerk reply? Hmm. Not really. Honest and to the point? Yes. I like the idea but I don't see what's in it for the volunteers. I don't see any charities listed. i.e. high school fishing teams etc. Gonna have to do better than that Mr. Pondman....

Skeeter Owners Tournament is June 13-14 @ lake fork, set up a booth there and you will collect a bunch of used plastics.
No, I won't work I will be fishing. If you set up there I will save all my used plastics and drop them off to you.

Yes, I understand that...however, when you volunteer it is usually for a noble cause...not to help someone get their business off of the ground...in those situations you should offer the volunteer like bags of plastics or something...not the hey thanks for volunteering your time for me to make money in which you will receive nothing in return...again this is not something like volunteering for the red cross or at the local ymca Now, if the OP can clarify what they mean when they say they will give a pack for each pack sold...does that mean the volunteers will get a pack for each pack they sell? If so, that may be something worth while then.

You guys are working hard at it Mr. PondMan. Keep up the hard work and it will come. Keep throwing out those ideas and you will hit the right key. The KEY here is work booths until the word is out and get that CAUSE of giving a free package honed into the right young groups of fisherman that deserve them, need them and will appreciate your efforts. In return they will send you pictures, testimonials and make post about the fish/tournaments they are winning with your baits.
Another booth to think about is trade days when the next one comes along at Fun-N-Sun. If your CAUSE is good enough those booths will be free to you if you ask the right person. You might thank about approaching TX. Parks and Wildlife on these big reservoirs and ask to put up a permanent collection station that can be checked ever so often to collect your plastics. They will do most anything to keep the plastics out of the lake.
Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success. If so, that may be something worth while then. He's done that more than a few times already. He's even offered to buy plastics from us at a pretty fair price per pound and then gave away packs of baits to high school anglers. He's a college kid trying make an opportunity for himself and help high school kids get into fishing. Does that suffice for the Noble cause you were looking for or did you need a bigger pat on the back before offering to "help".... If you had decided to read his posts you may have ready been able to gather his business vision before blasting it.

Look back at his older posts, he literally explains his position, cause, and business plan in other posts. He asked us opinions, ideas, like the poster above said, offered to buy them. Now he is asking for VOLUNTEERS, if you choose to give your time that's great! If not then oh well. If you want to do this but don't live near any of those lakes ask if you could do so with his offer at your home lake.

Yup that's what this world is about the good old ME ME ME ME. Even if this kid was making a dollar off of you collecting some unwanted baits fr him . A good fisherman would say hey kid. I'm going to help you out for a day but remember to help others as I helped you. Instead your only pounding into him " what am I going to get out of it " attitude. Lets help the guy instead of knocking him down.

I think some people just look for a reason to make a negative comment. Like my ol' daddy said: "if you don't have something nice to say,,,,keep you truckin mouth shut" Everyone needs HELP when they first start out at ay endeavor. No matter what it is. I've got lots of used and unwanted plastics that I tried to sell & no one wanted to buy, so I'll donate. Mr. PondMan,, just tell me where to send them.

You got a good idea but instead of asking for volunteers why do you take a note from the aluminum business and pay people to collect and bring plastics in to you. You could give them a little credit towards a few lures. I bet you would get a far better response. I was intrigued by your post but at the same time a little put off because you are asking for people to gather your materials for free. The recycling idea is a great idea though. You could also get with some state agencies and ask to if you could put some collection bins at boat ramps. I clean my plastics out after I load up and would gladly put them in a bin for that purpose.
