Well the alarm gremlin showed back up this weekend.

I have a solid tone alarm that comes on every now and then but goes off after 30 sec-1min, Well this weekend it decided to stay on for about 30 minutes.

The alarm comes on most of the time when I turn the key on, not start the motor but turn the key on. Other times it comes on while idling. The boat starts just fine when the alarm is one, and idles fine when it�s on, but will not get up and run. Almost like it�s in guardian mode.

This has probably gone on for the past year, with maybe 12-15 happenings. I�ve tried chasing it down while its on, but it doesn�t stay on long enough. I�ve check both floats and connections in both oil tanks, water separator and float in there,

Going to change out the VST and high pressure filters this week, but something just tells me it�s a sensor since it comes on when the motor isn�t running.


Any ideas on what else?

Sounds like you have checked most things. Is the oil level going down on the side of the engine? Try messing with the kill switch when it comes on.

I think when I had my HPDI the solid alarm was low oil or an overheat alarm, both of which put it in to guardian mode. Have you checked the oil tank on the engine to make sure it was within the required range ? Might also replace the inline oil filter near the remote oil tank if you have not done so. Mine had a temp gauge so it was relatively easy to rule out the over temp issue on mine.

Yep I have check the oil levels, and even pulled the kill switch. Saturday I floated all around Amon Carter while I had the cowling off wiggling everything I could think of trying to make it go off.


Just frustrating as hell. Guess I will throw a new impeller on it this week too, just to make sure. Its been about 18 months since I changed it.

You need to disconnect the temp sensor and then if needed the water pressure sensor while alarm is going. Disconnect the oil level sensors to check. Have had the oil tank sensors go bad on some other Yamy`s

Going to give it a try next time the alarm is going off. I was reading about the sensor last night in my manual. If I unplug it while its going off will it turn off if that's whats triggering it, correct?

Ok I found on my mercury the the alarm itself was bad, put another buzzer on it a good to go... just a thought

I had an HPDI and got some floating garbage sucked into the water circulation system. They have a right angle fitting before the p hole and it can get clogged if you are in an area with sawdust or anything fine in the water. may be the overheat alarm. They replaced the poppit valve at the same time.
