Went to lake raven today, took the family, caught 3 or 4 bass in about 5 ft. Lake was pretty stained, Im worried this lake is gonna be taken completely over by the water hyacinth before the end of the summer. Ive never seen it this bad this time of year, usually there is lillypads starting to develop and didn't see many lillypads but some on main lake points. Anyways, we had a good time, beaufiful day to be on the water.

Don't worry. TPWD seems to have a never ending supply of grass carp and poison.

Thanks for the report Kens3313. 3 of us fished Raven on Sunday, May 3. We had about the same experience. Bluegill bite was slow, as well as, the bass bite. Water was stained. Lots of hyacinth along the bank making kayaking and fly fishing tougher. Keep us up to date.

If you are talking hyacinths the grass carp won't eat them unfortunately. Grass Carp are for the Hydrilla. For the hyacinths they imported Nutria rats!! THAT didn't work out so well!! For a while the Hyacinths nearly took over all the little coves and creeks in Livingston! They are the floating things with flowers. They grow at like one plant will cover more than an acre in a year!! They can double in size every 12 days if the conditions are right. At one point in 1910 they almost imported hippos to eat them in Louisiana. They were blocking up the rivers and this was considered a national issue so the US government got involved. It was called the US Hippo bill and failed to pass by one vote!! Personally considering that they kill more people in Africa than Crocs or lions I'm glad they didn't bring them over. The males are territorial as hell and MEAN!
