Here is a few more good ones 1 throw of the net. For reference those black speakers are 6" diameter.   YEAH!!!!!!!!

Great bait nice throw ,I caught several up at pk when I stripper guides up there that big ,looked that big to me. I ALWAYS THROUGH THEM BACK I CALL THEM BREDER SHAD.BUT IF I WAS BLUE FISHING LOOK OUT I WOULD CUT HIM UP.

Here is one I caught a couple weeks ago, was over 20" texas ranch had actually measured it but I put a penny on it for reference.  Wow, that's got to be a record!

I used to catch them that big or bigger up on Texoma on a topwater lure, and yes, hooked in the mouth!

Long ago when collecting environmental samples in the Houston Ship Channel in a gill net we caught a gizzard shad that weighed four pounds and eleven ounces, biggest one I ever saw, we did not get a length, but it was well over 20".
now being where it was caught, it could have been some kind of freak.
I see a lot of twelve inchers and many as big as 16 or 18 inches, but anything 2)' and over is pretty rare.

Mannnnn, and I thought I was doing good when I found some bagged fresh frozen at the bait shop that were 6-7". I need a boat. Plain and simple.

I have caught goldeye fish up in Red River below the dam that were close to 20". They bit minnows and worms. These things look almost just like a big shad but they have teeth. They put up a good fight in swift water.

 at least 19 " where do yall see 13" on there I use them hole caught one yesterday but this was remarkable biggest shad hands down the record for shad I looked it up is 4 pounds

Those big shad are really good fish smoked in the smoker..not kidding..! Keep them on ice after caught.Let them get very cold on ice and firm.Fillet them out and wash in very cold clean water. Salt and pepper the fillets and place in smoker and smoke with a good hard wood about 4 hours at low temp.

If you have ever smoked sandbass and like them..The very large shad are better tasting smoked.
Very similar to Herring if you have ever had it.

 This is supposed to be the current world record. Caught in south dakota. 4lbs 15oz
