When the water is hot and the clarity is super good. The Spanish mackerel is not even here yet in full force.

I use about 10 feet of 40 to 60 fluorocarbon leader and about 12 inch of 60-90 pound wire leader. You can use single strand of 7 strand. You can twist the single strand but you need to straight it out after a few bite or change a new one since it will twist. For 7 strand you need to crimp. It will stay straight even when fish bite.

We use treble hook with live shrimp under custom float bobbers.

And I wore the info for king mackerel. Like I said the Spanish is not active enough to think about king. I fish surfside jetty at least once a week.

I use different lb and rig for Spanish

Ok thanks, I am sorry for the confusion. Maybe I will get down there in afew weeks. Also what kind of rod and reel setup do you use for them. Also how far down the jetty do you fish?

Any rod and reel can catch a Spanish mackerel. For King mackerel... You will need a reel that hold a bit of line and has smooth drag. They will run out toward the sea. Not like a jack where it will run left and right. As for rod.... Any 8ft or so will do. I use a Shimano stella on a 8ft ugly stick gx2 or a Shimano sustain on the same model rod. Caught them on a Abu Garcia record 6600 before.

Go about 3/4 down. You will see tons of Vietnamese there if you go on weekend.

Jetty fishing is fun, get to the last third of the jetty before the break of dawn to secure your spot and bite should start with the first light. Any 8 feet or longer rod with any reel with about 300 feet of line should suffice. If you love slinging lures use 1oz blue chrome back RatLtrap or any 1.5 oz chrome spoons preferably krocodile or kastmaster. The best and catches most is the ribbon fish on a floater with 3 treble hook stingers. SPI jetty rock hoppers already started reeling in these kingmacks but in limited amount yet. Waiting for the warmer water and cleaner water and the crazy text messages of fellow rock hoppers, hehehe.
