Taking my boss to Lavon this weekend. I have never been there, so looking for any insight to help ensure that we put something in the boat.

Have the sand bass been active there? I thought we were going to target crappie but that doesn't sound promising from what I've read in the forum posts. I like catching catfish but I think my boss would prefer sandies or crappie. I'm up for anything, so long as were catching something.

Appreciate any tips you can offer.
JB

I haven't been there in a couple years dew to the low lake levels now I think it's only 2 feet low I want to make a run out there. My fav spot used to be the power plant for hybrids and sand bass. There is a boat ramp right next to it. But it has been a couple years so I don't know the fish are there now. Let us know how you do and good luck.

I have been out twice this year, and never marked groups of active fish on the main lake - although both trips were only ~2 hours.

I did catch a single white trolling over the main lake humps this past Sunday. Not sure if the fish are still shallow or hiding out somewhere else. It's a completely different lake this year with the higher water level.

Maybe somebody has been out on Lavon with more luck/experience than me.

2 weeks ago I fished shallow for crappie and we got one LMB. Went to the point by the PP and marked nothing. Sand Bass may still be up the lake and working down.

Anyone know if Lavonia park is accessible? I know they were making repairs to the bridge that crosses the railroad tracks but its not listed as closed anymore on the corp website. I would happy if I could get to the south ramp close to the dam if I could, I don't need to get into the park.

I stopped there this morning and Lavonia park is open $4 entry but the old free boat ramp at the south end of the park is closed to access because the road across the dam is still closed to the public. Mallard has been open since November just has water and the ramp is usable. Also the swimming area and picnic areas are open at Mallard. I will be in a kayak if I go so launching close to the dam as possible is a plus, so I'm glad Lavonia is open.

I plan to give it a try on the weekends after turkey season. I have to guide until then. I printed out Carey's post of all the hot spots and plan to try them... I don't have them on GPS, so it will be hit or miss...

Not really. We were there from about 7:30 until 2:00 and caught one 12" sandie and one small blue cat. I was seeing a decent number of fish on the graph here and there but they weren't biting for us. We launched from Little Ridge and the area from there to a the next point to the NE is where we marked the most fish. We never ventured anywhere north of that point.

This weekend I'm going try Eagle Mountain again. It's close and I know the lake better.

Regards,
JB

Had much better luck this past weekend on EM. Caught 20+ including two blue cats in the 4# - 5# range.

How is the lake level at lavon? Is it high enough to where that dock at little ridge is floating again?

Right now the lake is a foot above the normal pool. It it's ever floated before, it should be now.
