I am thinking about getting a older deck or barge for fishing and grand kids. Anyone ever strip one down removing all the fluff, seats and make a fishing rig out of it?

I re-built one from the pontoons up,and installed only one permanently mounted seat, which is the Captains leaning post. All other seats are folding deck chairs and bag-chairs from Sam's Club, and they work great! Only set up the number of chairs needed, face them the direction you want them, and keep the other floor space open.

I have had limited experience with a deck boat and pontoon. The deck boat had been setting for a while and we could never get the Volvo engine to run right. The boat seemed sluggish and awkward. The pontoon was much lighter and of course it had an outboard on it. A Honda 90 which was plenty for the toon. Dual locators, Terrova trolling motor, radio, lounger and 4 captain chairs. My preference was the toon. I know it is like comparing apples and oranges!

I put off pontoon purchase for many years, raised 2 boys with 14 ft flat bottom and little bigger fiberglass . Finally bought used 22 ft, 90 Yamaha used from my friend next door. We love it, all 6 adults and 2 grandkids and few more can ride ,fish, tube, or just sit watch other crazies on lake. Great for catfishin or bream or whatever ya fish for.
Smile while you still have teeth.
