I know there have to be a few of you out there that can help me on this one.
Just bought a new-to-me Ranger that has the step under the transome. Need to install my Lowrance LSS2 transducer, but I want to make sure I mount it the best way possible and get it right the first time. Would really appreciate some input and especially some pictures of your installs.
Anyone used the wedge type mounting plates that go between transducer and boat? Also, can I assume everyone glasses in their other transducer? Boat is a Ranger Reatta 180vs (no jack plate).
Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!
Eric

Eric, my Stratos sure isn't a Ranger but you might consider a mount like mine. It works perfectly, no holes were drilled in the tea some & it seems to be less vulnerable to bumps with the timber on Palestine(which I like to move around in often) The aluminum plate was just a piece of scrap a local weld shop had laying around. The shop owner sold me the plate, cut it to size & drilled it for the Yamaha's mounting bolt All for $10.

I've got a Ranger 190VS and mounted mine on the step (bottom) after talking with Ranger, and Cabella's. I went and looked at what they had in stock, and did the same thing. If yours has the same type step - no additional bracket is needed. That area is horizontal, so the duces is directed correctly. Also, the duces should be centered on the step. Again, Ranger provided me with lots of helpful tips on the phone. Couple things to watch out for:
The fiberglass on the step is very thin, so make sure you follow steps carefully to avoid chips in the gel coat. Use the Ranger recommended sealant. Don't skimp on this one. Make sure you pre-drill the holes for the mounting screws.
The rest is a no brainer.
Good luck!

BassCat installed my HB transducer on the step dead center right under the motor. But there is a jack plate also so that won't work for you. I like Pepop's mount. Good solution.
