I was back on mid lake this afternoon, and spent about five hours fishing. It was dark and breezy, with winds pretty much straight out of the east, blowing at 8 to 10 mph, which is harder than forecast. Water temp was 68 degrees where I was. I actually got a bit chilly in the shorts and sandals I was wearing. It won't be long before I'll be wishing for a day this cool.

I didn't even try any shallow fish, just heading for the brush and concrete that's been working for me lately. I never found a concentration of fish anywhere. It was just a fish here and a fish there, but I ended up with 18 keepers for the afternoon. It was one of those days where they wanted the jig sitting perfectly still.

I caught all the fish on a 3/32 oz jig with my homemade plastic shad, dark gray shad color. I can usually find a backup color that will also catch fish, but not today. Every keeper came on that color. The fish were 10 to 12 feet deep, in 11 to 20 feet of water. There were no monster fish. They were all black crappie, and averaged a bit smaller than what I've been catching. Still, 18 keepers on a Thursday afternoon is a blast. All fish were released today.

Yes, the lake is full and the upper end is muddy. They were already releasing water even before tonight's rain.
