Just bought a new-to-me Ranger that has the step under the transome. Need to install my Lowrance LSS2 transducer, but I want to make sure I mount it the best way possible and get it right the first time. Would really appreciate some input and especially some pictures of your installs.
Anyone used the wedge type mounting plates that go between transducer and boat? Also, can I assume everyone glasses in their other transducer? Boat is a Ranger Reatta 180vs (no jack plate).
Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

We have mounted a bunch of lss2 transducers on the step on Rangers. I find it easiest to mount it where the cord goes toward the engine then up the transom by the motor and into the rigging sleeve to the console. Just make sure on your screen selections that you flip your left/right view as you will be technically installing the lss2 transducer backwards. I do find it best to glass in the 83/200 2d sonar transducers. I have never used the wedge in all our installs, I haven't seen the need too personally

I used a "Stern Saver" to mount my LSS1 transducer on the transom step of my Champion. Works great and no holes drilled in hull. http://www.sternsaver.com/Got mine from Tackle Warehouse.

I have a Skeeter that has a transom step. I couldn't attach any transducer mount or bracket to the vertical surface because there was not sufficient flat surface.
If I would have attached the Lowrance transducer bracket directly to the horizontal surface (hull bottom below bilge area) the LSS transducer would not have been low enough, and the sponsons would have blinded a portion of the full 180 degree transducer beam. To lower the transducer a bit I made a pair of mating stainless steel brackets that I epoxied to the horizontal surface. I bolted the Lowrance transducer bracket to this custom bracket. The installation works perfectly up to about 6-7 knots.
I suppose you could use the Stern Saver (one or more) to achieve the same standoff.
If you have a jack plate that might be an easier place to install the LSS.
