I've tried searching for this and sorry if this is a beat to death topic, but what action of rod are you guys using to throw an A-Rig? I have some 7'6" X-heavy rods, but the tip is pretty stiff. Just wanted to hear what others are using for the ol A-Rig. thx

I bought an iRod Genesis 2 Bama Rig Special this year. It's rated 1-4 ounces. I was using my partner's heavy action Carrot Stick Wild, ( after I broke the tip off my Skeet Reese A Rig rod ) and it shattered into about 8 pcs earlier this year while casting a Hog Farmer Rig. The iRod seems to be pretty nice.

Swim bait rod loads up just before you cast and loads up right on a hook set . Those are the rods to look at . Pick your own brand.

thank you very much Ron. Can you explain a little further Ron, I am a little ignorant of what you are getting at. Can you describe it in a action/tip way?

7'10" HEAVY MOD-FAST 12-25 3/4 - 3 you could go up one rod to a x heavy that would take you up to 4oz . IMO I think it's to stiff and doesn't load up as well.

I agree. I never really got people wanting crazy heavy rods. I guess I can see it if you're fishing 40 ft of water with 1/4 oz heads on each bait maybe. I use a Dobyns 764c for most of the a rigs. Check out its specs and try to match it. It's a super versatile rod, loads up well, and I can pull the a rig off and use it for other things just as effectively Like Carolina rig or pitching a Texas rig.

I use a St. Croix Mojo Bass MBC79HF Swimbait/A-Rig rod and I really like it. It isn't the lightest rod in the world, but you are throwing ARigs so who cares, right?
