Posted this question on saltwater inshore but no response, so will see what happens here. Headed to Corpus in mid May, have a hotel on beach to stay for the weekend. Checking up on some piers in the area for me and the Mrs to fish from. The furthest away is the Bob Hall pier on N. Padre which is in the gulf (beachfront). Is the water warm enough at that time of year for the specs to be hitting beachfront? The other 2 I looked up are the Red Dot Pier and Indian Point pier which are in the Corpus Christi Bay. Which one would ya'll recommend to try. The wife and I are going to Corpus just to get away for a couple days and was told that weekend will not be all about fishing bang . So im wanting to pick the best option, I know if the beachfront is flat and clear(green) I guess Bob Hall is my go to, but would like to hear some input from the people that have actually fished on or close to these piers, thanks.

Hey Weta hook,

It's been years since I've lived there but while I was there, the red dot pier always has trout. But most the time they're undersized specs or tons of sand trout, you might get lucky with some reds. Any where in the Bay is good, but most likely will have to wade around. I've had some good luck in the school bay (TAMUCC). Bob hall is good to go default area. I would try the Jetties at the Packery Channel early early morning and you might get lucky with some mackeral. Pompou fish generally are in the area often too. If you have a 4x4 and dont mind a drive, the Padre Island National Seashore is untouched/unmaintenanced beach. If you can catch some finger mullet, you can catch some big big fish down there. Just got to follow the birds.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info rasmot. Was just checking out the packery channel jetties, have always liked the beachfront when conditions are right, plus its free and free is good, especially if the fishing is bad. Hopefully the weather and fish cooperate on that weekend.

In the city proper, Cole Park pier is good for trout. Don't know if is still there but LCRA had a discharge channel on the bay that could hold fish of all kinds when generating. The jetties between the US Lexington and the state aquarium CA. Be productive as well. Oso bay is very good too. Hope this helps

you can park along side the road on ocean drive in between the naval base and the school and fish channel that runs underneath the bridge. ive seen lots of redfish chase mullet near the school apartments.

My two favorites...Horace Caldwell in Port Aransas and Red Dot.
