So my buddy and I decided to give Lake Fork a try on short notice. He called a few guides and ended up hiring Greg West through a referral. Greg is a young gun finding his way as a Lake Fork Guide. Some might have been skeptical but we were optimistic that this guy would work hard to put us on fish and make a name for himself and we were right! Greg picked us up at Popes Landing which I would highly recommend as a place to stay if you're looking for one. Rooms were big, clean and quiet. We trailered to The Minnow Bucket which is a real nice place too. Looks like it recently underwent a remodel. We had a good lunch there as well. We launched, ran a bit and got on our first spot around 7:30. My first fish ever, on Lake Fork, went #7.22, I think it was, and my buddies went #6+. The bite was tough but we ended up with probably 15 good bites but lost at lest 5 as they cartwheeled through the air and threw the hook. Greg is a personable guy, not a clock watcher, not worried about fuel and worked his [censored] off for us. Hey, I don't need anyone to bait my hook but if they guy wants to do it then I'm gonna let him! LOL We chatted it up, talked about the town, the lake and had a good time. I've been on the water with some grumpy, burned out guides so it was nice to be with someone who still has the fire. The weather was a trip! Forecast called for partly cloudy with light winds and we got sun, rain, thunder, lightening and even hail! On several occasions we all debated it on calling it a day but it was ultimately our decision and felt no pressure to do anything other than what we wanted. So we grinded it out. We finished up the day a little after 4 which was our decision as Greg would have went on had we wanted to. After our day Greg spent some time at our room, where he dropped us off at, and we did some map study. He pointed us in the right direction for the next day that we were going to fish alone. That night we had dinner, Chicken Fried Steak at Tiffany's. I'd probably pass on dinner there again. smile

The next morning we went looking for bed fish and found a few but no tanks. The water clarity wasn't great but we caught one girl off a bed and decided to make the long haul back to Houston.

All in all I thought Lake Fork was great. It's definitely a fishery where every cast you have a chance at the fish of a lifetime. Not big numbers this weekend for us, but all quality fish!

I'd highly recommend Greg West and will definitely be using him again in the future.
