We are looking into doing a Texas trail tournament series this fall of 2015 and spring of 2016 with a championship in 2016 which would be possibly in june. It is still in the disussion phase but will be set up with 3 tournaments in the fall and 3 in the spring. example 1 september, 1 october, 1 november for the fall and 1 febuary, 1 march, 1 april. We will have 2 tournaments in east texas, 2 in the DFW area, then 2 in the central texas area.
Im just trying to get an idea on if many people would be interested in fishing a series like this so that we can move forward with the idea or scrap it. We do plan on trying to get added money for the championship as well as gear to give away.
We will use this to promote our sponsors and also help raise money for our travels to tournaments.
any and all input for ideas are welcomed.

If you going to do a trail I would drop the 75% payback or what ever it is you do during your opens and just do a membership fee.
The drop in payback is great for one time charity thing, but not for a trail.

any and all input for ideas are welcomed. Not trying to steal your thunder here and bring a bunch of negativity but I would think there are a number of more viable/profitable options to raise awareness and funds for your team other than trying to start a tournament trail. The investment in marketing, tournament equipment, staff, website, fish care, etc is considerable and there are 1000 trails who've already made the investment and have a proven turn out and payback. Last bit of advice if you're still committed to moving forward is don't use the forum as a benchmark or tool for recruiting participants. You'll have 50 people tell you they're in and that means that 11 teams will actually show up and that number will go down with each event in the series. My two cents...

Mark, Thanks for the feedback. We already have 6 club tournaments a year, at least 2 opens for fundraising, 4-6 college opens, and 3-5 regional opens which adds up to a lot of miles and money spent in 6 months. By adding open tournaments on the the Saturday before the college tournament opens we have gained 6 fundraisers and cut out excess expenses and missed classes by going to college opens. We are also able to promote our sponsors in more areas of Texas as well as be available to help them at outdoor events due to having more free weekends.
Not going to hurt any feelings here, I posted this to get your kind of feedback and expose problems that we might face and then find a solution to the problems.

Terry,
It was a great tournament. I think it was sore for a few days but he was good togo once they finished second with 23 pounds. seems that a good bag will dull the pain of a 7/0 hook through the hand. It was an overall good tournament with 9 of 12 teams breaking 14 pounds.

You'll still need a reason for the anglers to show up and a way to separate yourself from all the other options. I'm sure you guys can handle that part. Best of luck!
