I do service work, on machine shop machinery. It's field service, and I don't always have a call to make. Usually, if I haven't gotten a call from work by 11:00am, I'm home for the day. It's rare that I get a call for a job later than that, unless it's for the next day. I didn't have a call to make this morning, so by shortly after 11:00, I was headed for the lake.

I usually fish mid lake Cedar Creek, but it's getting late enough in the spring for lower lake spawning, so today, I drove down to the Caney City public ramp, and launched there. I hadn't fished that part of the lake in a while. I motored to a cove that used to work in spring the last time the lake was full, and tossed out a jig and bobber.

That's when my phone rang. Yep, it was my job, and as my boss was telling me where my service call was, I watched my bobber disappear. I tucked the phone onto my shoulder, hauled in a really nice crappie, took a quick photo, headed for the ramp, and made a bee line home to change and go to work. Some days go that way. On a positive note, the shallow fish are there. At least one was, anyway...

You'll notice there's no big smile on my face in this photo.
