I have gotten decent at using sidescan for crappie and catfish, but am brand new to using it while bass fishing. I was hoping for any tips or screenshots that y'all are willing to share to help shorten the learning curve. I have yet to be able to tell whether the fish I see are bass or not.

TMedic, if you're more of a hands on than Internet learner, look up Clark Reehm on here. Take your boat. Spend a day or two with Clark learning your electronics and your boat. If, after that, you feel that your T.O.W. wasn't worth it, I'll cover the cost of your trip.

Send Clark a PM and ask him to send you some SI screenshots, too. He has some neat SI portfolios.

I have no issues w/ my electronics or my boat. I just have been fishing for crappie and catfish for the last couple of years and would like to learn how to tell bass from the other species. I have also been watching YouTube videos, I just wanted to see if anyone on the forum cared to share. Just to make sure somebody doesn't tell me to Google it for their personal tip, I have done that already as well. Thank you for the lead on Clark. I will contact him.

Crappie, usually "group" together around brush etc....catfish, usually stay close to the bottom....Bass, on the other hand, tend to migrate up and down the water column....on ledges...typically, on the drop or slightly above the drop (during current)..these fish are easier to catch......bass usually create a "hotter" image than....crappie....sandbass....etc....in you find "streaks" on your screen, below shad.....pretty good chance they're bass....hope this helps....

Here's a pic of a brush pile I had just scanned and what I caught off of it. Almost won my 2 day championship off this one brush pile back in October.

Pete, that looks like that is a real find. Are you using only the right side SI?

Ps. I got my ram mount back - I forgot to tell ya. Hope that you found one that works better.

That was on the left side of my boat as I was scanning I was fishing a rock bank the brush was in 12-15ft. And loaded with fish. Had it to myself until day two when a local that had seen me whacking them on day one showed up on day 2 with two other guys and fished it. It was disheartening watching them catch some solid fish that could of helped me but that's how it goes.

That's a heck of an offer and one I would definitely take.
