I have a P0299 check engine code. Before I take the turbo off and check the unison ring, are there any other items I can check for that specific code. I've checked the MAP port to make sure its not clogged. I have also checked for any air flow restrictions. I took the truck to a diesel mechanic in Frisco and he said the unison ring was warped, but I saw no indications that the turbo had been removed. I have noticed a minor loss of power, but nothing major. Any help is appreciated, just need a little advice on what else to look for before attempting to remove the turbo. Thanks and God bless

With a Ford scan tool you can check your icp voltage to make sure it is in range then you could also perform a road test and monitor mgp at wide open throttle 05-07 should be 25 psi and 03-04 should be 23-24psi. The unison ring does not warp. There is an oval slot in which an actuator pin opens and closes the veins of the turbo. The actuator slot will wallow and look like a lowercase b or d. Or the unison ring can rust/stick to the housing. Parts and labor should run about 450 on the side or at an independent shop. Whichever you choose make sure you find a competent technician. They're are plenty of people working on the 6.0s but really only a handful who really know what they are doing. Food for thought.

Is this an early build or late build truck? check for any air leaks in the cac system or in the exhaust coming off the back of the heads. Air leaks and exhaust leaks will cause turbo codes. But it could also be a dirty turbo that is sticking

That would cause a major loss of power. He could possibly have a hole in a cac boot
