When does it start? Is there a specific water temp I should be looking for?

I have heard about some topwater but It must be very secretive because I have not heard a whole lot. I went out there a few fridays ago and of course a front rolled in and killed it...

There was a little top water action right before the run up the river but a lot of spawned out fish have returned and I assume are returning everyday and I feel the top water bite will take off any day!

water temps should be in high 60s if not 70 already right? does 70 make it happen or does that not matter as much

Little fish seem to want it a bit warmer but we need enough big fish returned from the spawn to get a wide open top water bite! Or at least that is my take on it.

When the topwater bite does start where's usually the best place to start looking, mouth of the creeks, shallow points, deep water, transition to deep water,.....?

that is the mid lake action. In April/May you are looking for spawning shad along the banks to get them going. When Whitney when in its prime April was the hot month.
