I am EXTREMELY new to the boating world and need some help on my idle and speed. I recently purchased a 2005 TZX190 with a Vmax 150. When the boat is not in gear the idle is like 1000 rpms and when i put it in gear to putt around it is really low also and I have to push on the pedal to get it to go a little faster. Is there an easy fix to get the RPM's up or do i have to take it to the dealer where i bought it? i would rather not as i have to drive an hour to get there so if anyone has any tips or help on how to adjust this easily for a newbie it would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I think having a hot foot it has to be low. if not when putting into gear you will eat the gears up. keep your foot off the pedal until your in gear.

Don't know much about Yamahas but if it's carbed sounds like the carbs need to be synchronized and the timing/cables adjusted and or carbs rebuilt. Is it a new problem or has it been like this since you got it? I wouldn't run it anymore until you figure it out if a carb is jacked up and it runs lean bye bye power head.

If it's something you're set on doing yourself a factory service manual will be your most valuable tool.

It is carbed and I bought it from a dealer so I would think they should check that right? It has been like that since I bought it. Runs like a champ but the idle is low. Just wondering if it is a simple turn of a screw or more detailed than that? Thx again!

I think you're OK.
When you put it in gear the prop spins and puts resistance on the engine causing the rpms to drop.
Mine is a carbed 200 that idles around 1000 in neutral and about 700 when in gear.
When it gets to idleing rough and harder to start, change the spark plugs. I change plugs once a year.
You got a good boat and motor combo there for sure. good choice for a first ride.

I have the same boat motor combo, mine idles around 1000 in neutral and 700 in gear and that is where specs say it should be. If your lower than that you might need to adjust the cable on the hot foot.

Sounds right on. Unless its trying to die at the lower "in gear" idle than you are fine. Often wished all my boats would idle a little slower in gear at certain times(idling through thick stump field...) you can always speed em up w/the throttle but they will only go so slow.

Nothing is wrong. Don't fret or worry. Definitely don't touch timing or any screws ect.
