We're trying to put together a family vacation middle of July. I am looking for resort and fishing recommendations in Costa Rica.
I'm not a saltwater fisherman, but would like a couple days of different fishing than I'm use to. What is best to fish for down there? My wife and 8 year old daughter won't be interested in all day big trips, but is there any local fun fishing they might enjoy?
Thanks!

Two summers ago we headed there on July 4th. We stayed in La Fortuna for 3 nights with a great view of thr Arenal Volcano and the jungle, then stayed 4 nights in Guanacaste on the beach. I'd recommend doing the same so you can experience both areas. We also took a half day fishing trip and didnt do so well. Caught maybe 6 bonito and 2 small dorados.Beautiful scenery though

we're considering Quepos, recommended American guide there and several housing options.

My wife and I went to CR in '99. We stayed in various parts but fished a charter out of Quepos on the west coast.. We killed them... 5 Sails and 1 98lb bluefin.. all about 30 min offshore and it took us around 3 hrs...best fishing trip of my life!!
Hope you enjoy your trip!!

We went in March. First half of the week in Tamarindo. Great beach, terrific surf, fishing was cancelled due to steady 25-30mph winds. It was "windy season"... who knew!? I was going to fish on a panga boat, not too far out, with "Pedro's fishing" guide or whatever. All I can say is that they guy (Jason, Pedro's American son-in-law, who apparently runs most of the fishing trips) was a real [censored]-head on the phone. Just an attitude. I was almost glad I didn't have to spend a day with the jerk on a boat with my son. So... Sorry I cannot advise on a guide.
Second half of the trip was inland, near Arenal Volcano. Didn't think of it or have a plan, but freshwater fishing can be had. There are some beasties in the rivers. I can get the guide company that we did an eco-rafting trip with, as I recall seeing fishing trips advertised. They were a good outfit. You may want to take a travel rod and maybe some tackle. I wished I had.
Other than that, awesome place. We loved it.

Check out Fishing Nosara.com. Great guides and company to work with. I'm not real current, been 2 years now since I was last down there. There are numerous places to stay at Playa Guiones and the Nosara river comes into the Pacific there. You can fish with a Charter half day trips both inshore and off. Sail fishing, Yellowfin tuna and Dorado are great offshore, Rooster fish and Snapper inshore. And then to top it all off you can walk out to the mouth of the Nosara river and catch Snook. Last time I fished with the Nosara charter we hooked and landed 4 sail at the same time. You want to talk about rush - just awesome. Oh and one more thing, check out the videos of Dolphin pods on You Tube. While out with the Charter you may come across one of the massive pods of them I talking acres of the Pacific ocean erupting with dolphins going crazy feeding on the baitfish the Yellow Fin tuna push to the surface. Can I go with you?
