We fished the dam for crappie with no success. We threw all kinds of colored marabou jigs and flies (fly fishing – home made jigs made to imitate marabou jigs, also used clouser minnow) and could only catch 95% male sand bass (they had no eggs) and yellow bass (some had eggs some didn’t). The water temperature was ranging from 65.3 – 70.1 degrees. It was slow at times but you could catch your limit in a few hours time. White, Chartreuse, Electric Chicken, Purple & Limetreuse, Blue & White jigs and flies. The colors did not matter as long as you threw to the dam as close to the rocks as you could and retrieved. It rained both Friday & Saturday Night around 7-11 PM. It did not seem to mess the fishing up at all. The male sand bass are still in the rocks so the female Crappie should be getting ready to move closer to the rocks to lay their eggs pretty soon if the weather stays warm. Everything is way behind right now. This time last year the Sand Bass were done spawning and the Crappie had moved in and were in peak spawning mode. Last year the tail end of the Crappie spawn was May 24, 2014. Everything is way behind due to the rains, fronts and lake levels increasing in my opinion. We ended up limiting out on sandbass each trip but you had to work for them. they were smaller in size with a few classic MAGNUM sandbass mixed in. I believe the yellow bass are in spawn in the rocks since they were biting like crazy. The larger sandbass seemed to be further away from the rocks. giving me the feeling that they are done and moving on out to get ready for the hot summer schooling action. You know what is next after sandbass? Crappie Spawn!!!!!! sorry to ramble. hope this helps. Any week now folks.. Any week!

you can read about my whole trip here http://dfwkayaker.com/sandusky-magnum-magnesium-mini-mag/
