I am looking to plan a family outing for the in-laws and us here in a couple of months before it gets hot as h***. We're looking to stay within 1 hour of the DFW area, and I want suggestions from people that have actually done it. There are 6 adults and one 3 y/o. Looking for somewhere dog friendly, maybe 3 bedrooms, and that possibly has kayaks available to rent for the family. Of course I want to be able to catch some fish from my kayak, but that's not the priority. ANY suggestions on where to start looking would be greatly appreciated guys!

That's not even close to 1 hr away though.

I have only camped here, but Mineral Wells SP has some cabins and is a great park to kayak, hike, fish, or just enjoy the sun!

Glen Rose has a bunch of place to rent.
You got the Brazos and Paluxy river there if the water is up there is some good fishing.
I have stayed here before and really enjoyed it.

Plenty of places to rent yaks and canoes. there is also Dinosaur Valley State Park which is pretty fun as well.
Within a hour drive to DFW.

We ended up settling on a lake house at Lake Whitney. Thank all of you for your input though, I will keep them in mind for a quiet night with the wife. Not so much the in-laws haha
