I like to use BIG hook for big mama stripers. So I use 4/0, 5/0 hooks. I also love top water action, I want those big hook floating on top of the water. I like to keep things simple, using what ever I can reach in my bag, to make the big hook float. So I did this way:

1. I wrap some feather around the hook

2. choose a proper size float:

3. Then, I put them together:

Voila, that's exactly what I mean: 1 + 1 = 1 bannana2

And did I catch fish with it yet? You can bet on it!

Caught this beauty Sunday morning at Texoma.

I have yet to try on stripers.

Great idea Moon! Are you " glueing" the fly into the float? How are you tying the fly to the tippet?

That is innovative. Well done, what happened to the poppers with the hook hanging down?

Thanks my friend. I am just too lazy to go through the complicate. process to make a popper.

No, i do not glue them together. I also want to use it as 1 - 1 = 1. Meaning: to take the float out, use the feather part as below the surface fly. I did insert a plastic bean, and glue it to the float.

The hook size is so big, and it's heavy, really difficult to keep hook point up, unless i put belly weight in the float. By add more weight, the popper will be way too heavy for me to cast it properly. Since the hook size is big, and i am targeting big fish, the hook up rate will be good, i think.

I like it.

It's a good reminder that the fly doesn't have to be fancy to be effective.

Well done.

Thanks RexW.
The foam float is so soft and fragile, is easy broken. Good thing they are cheap. I will figure out a way to make them last a bit longer.

A coating of epoxy should make them bullet proof, but even a coating of fingernail polish would help.
