But a day on the water is better than a day in the house...

I've never been to Fork.

What trolling motor did you end up going with?

Just a 12v? How does it do in the wind?

Is that one of the ones that the base hangs off over the front of the boat at all times?

Did you get the ipilot and universal sonar with it?

12v, deep cycle battery, ipilot universal sonar. It does hang off the front, it will take 6 bolts, but you can only use 4 because it hangs off the front. I can send you some pics if you want. Probably more motor than I need, weight is something else to consider, like an extra person in the boat. The remote control I really like and use most of the time. Foot pedal I have not got the hang of. Plenty motor for any wind, but flat bottom boat want to stay out of the wind, back end swings all around. I need to try and see if I can somehow use the prop for a rudder.

It has been feast or famine here on Fork.
Shallow 1 day, deep the next bang

You should check out some YouTube videos on the Elite 5 HDI! I have the same unit and I`ve learned a lot just from watching them.

Thx, I thought of that yesterday and watch one, I'm gonna watch some more though seeing how it worked for you. I guess reading the manual not a bad idea either. I have always just used the lake map page for GPS..

If you can send me some pics. I'd like to see how much it hangs off the front.

I was thinking about trying to find one that doesn't hang off because I am afraid of smashing it or it getting snagged on stuff.

I was also thinking about getting a hand model as I don't think I'd care for the foot control.

I'm assuming you got the 52"?

What I sometimes do is trim my motor down pretty good to act as a makeshift rudder. It still blows around but not as much.
