Has anyone ran a motormate style or motor stiks or my-wedge style transom savers on mid 90 model bass boats. I have a 97 nitro with a 10" plate and I was thinking about switching over but my concerns were how much extra stress it would put on my transom.

I ran a motormate style lock on a 95 Bullet for almost 10 years. Transom was as solid as the day I bought it. I wouldn't worry a bit.

I was going to switch over and I asked everyone in our bass club and was advised NOT to do it.

What was the reasoning of not doing it. I've already had to replace some bushings and seals on my motor and has cracked a cross member on my trailer from the original style.

i wouldn't use the "stiks" but i would certainly use the motor mate!!

The old style "transom savers" that connect your lower unit to your trailer do not relieve any weight or stress off your transom. Think about it. Do you really think a piece of 3/4" square tubing is going to help hold a 500# motor bouncing up and down on the back of a trailer? You want to take advantage of the strongest part of your boat, your transom, and lock the motor solidly to the transom to keep it from bouncing around. If your transom fails it is going to be because of other reasons than the type of transom saver you are using.

That was my thought on it all. Ordered a motor mate yesterday can't wait to try it out, thanks for all the input.
