i am from broken bow ok and we don't have docks on our lake and I've never really fished docks...Ive been fishing lakes around the Abilene area and find docks on Leon brownwood etc 16+ fow. What is the best bait to throw? I feel a jig it trig is great for the first 10 fow but a lot of docks end in 20+ fow... I find myself trolling from dock to dock only fishing a portion of the dock and if I know it's deep I bypass it because I know it's 20 ft deep and it only a 8 ft cast. Do I cast only 8 ft and peel a bunch of line off and fish it or find more shallower dock?

Try throwing an Alabama rig for fish suspended under those docks

Thank you sir, I thought about that. Like I Sid I've never fished docks and from what you see on tv I feel like I should pulling fish off every dock but a lot of times I find myself on a dock in 20 fow 10 ft from the bank.... I think I may try a weightless senko

Lot of docks on the lake I fish.

Weighless senkos can be really good. Or jigs or topwater.

The key for me is to get it as absolutely far back as I can. You want to be fishing the water most people pass up. There can be some really big fish in the back shadows of those docks.

Skip heavy lead headed swim baits under them.

I like a long dock in deep water roflmao look for the dock that has shalow water, some structure other than the posts ( brush pile, jet ski rmps etc)and transistion to deep water all in one. allot docks in texas are rather shallow ie...a 20 yard dock that goes from the bank to 4' in 20 yards. Eagle Mountain is a good place to learn to fish docks and what to look for. Some there go from the shoreline to 20' deep in 20yds! I try and fish that one dock that sits out from the others and has some rip rap around it or some strange structure under it (sidescan). Work every post on each side and fish it completely if you think there are fish there. I have cast to one side of a 8"dock post several times and then hit the other and immediately got a bite. Im not a jig guy so i usualy throw and Trig craw or something like that around and under the docks i fish...SteezMacQueen is on the money also! if you can skip a bait under them! most swim baits will get your arm broke off!

Go home at the end of your shift, no matter the cost!

Swim jig or bladed jig and try to "feather" it. Let it sink, sweep your rod up, let it fall etc. I would say a majority of fish on deep docks will suspend rather than hug the bottom unless there is a brush pile or something underneath it.
