Sad story but good example of why people shouldn't try to "police" other people. Should've just kept fishing and enjoyed his night. Not sure how others yelling and smoking pot somehow negatively affected his evening. Just move further down the river...

Sad that a man lost his life over a disagreement. It is sad that the normal response in our society these days is that each should mind his own business if one sees something that one deems inappropriate or even illegal.
So many people are injured or even killed at the hand of others over basically nothing these days. It seems as a society we tend to want to champion causes from a far by social media, bumper stickers, t shirts and many other non hands on and passive ways.
As soon as someone steps up and tries to voice his or her opinion of something and the other party resorts to violence, our normal reaction is to now say the victim should have held his tongue and moved on a long. This is true in a lot of cases these days, but there was a time where in our society we sort of "policed" each other and kept society in check.
So sad this man is dead over what sounds like him trying to do the right thing and step up and confront some people that might have been doing something he viewed as wrong or illegal.
God Bless his children and family that are left behind..

We should probably create a job for folks to handle these sort of things... We could call them Police or Law Enforcement Officers. Maybe we could even create an easy way to contact them... maybe something like an easy to remember telephone number... maybe 911 or something easy like that.

The problem is the police cannot be everywhere and people these days feel as if they only need to behave within the boundaries of the law while the authorities are present. Just curious how many young people that have been seriously injured or even killed by senseless violence have you tried to save? How many have you witnessed their mothers, brothers, sisters and other family members and friends cry out over their dead or dying bodies? It's not a pretty thing and after 25 + years of seeing so many that I honestly cannot remember them all, it's disgusting that our society thinks that only the police need to make sure others behave and conform to the laws and morals of our society. Just my 2 cents ....

You have your opinion and I have mine. That's what makes this country great. As for your question about trying to save folks, I still see the faces, many of them.
Other than leaving his children fatherless, what exactly did the person in question accomplish by trying to "handle" a situation that he was neither prepared to nor needed to handle.

Doug, I agree with you in the case of a serious crime. People should in many cases step in and try to help. In this case...people smoking pot and yelling, no way. That's not worth even getting verbally assaulted over, let alone killed...
God bless the family. Very sad situation.

Other than leaving his children fatherless, what exactly did the person in question accomplish by trying to "handle" a situation that he was neither prepared to nor needed to handle. My point is that as a society we no longer are concerned what other members of our society think. There used to be a lot more respect and people actually tried to do the right thing if they were confronted. Now days people's response is violence, much more than in the past. In this case, like I originally stated, maybe the correct action was no action. My post is about the fact that it's become the norm to just accept and be tolerant of whatever anyone else is doing, regardless of the situation. To each his own, I suppose. But, if that's the case and we are living in a country where only the government can tell you that perhaps you're doing wrong, that's a sad case. Sorry for the rant, it's just old seeing the amount of senseless death we have in our society today....

I believe both to be wrong. The reason so much evil goes unchecked today is most people will do nothing so evil continues.

I couldn't agree you more Doug. We have to stand up for ourselves. For the ones that are saying to turn your head and walk away, that's exactly what the bad guys are wanting us to do. So basically when you do it, you're reinforcing bad behavior.
It's sad that we live in a society now where the person that stands up for what's right is looked as by most as the bad guy. Trust me, I know this.

What a sad story. And I could see it happening to any of us. I may not have said anything had I been by myself but if my wife, kids, nephews, etc. Would have been with me I probably would have said something.
I feel so sorry for his family and his kids.
