I've only tried for hybrids twice and each time caught several over 18... 24" is the biggest I've caught. Those reds can be tough to catch but trolling isn't always the best way. Even on the wall with love tilapia or perch a red won't touch it, but he will eat head on shrimp all day long. And even if they are close they won't bite a lure. Idk why they can be picky eaters but they are as picky as bass sometimes. Most the time the wall reflects what they will eat in the main lake. Guides just stick to trolling to save their equipment. But I've come in with my limit next to guides who trolled all day and couldn't get a bite. Right now I've been seeing reds bust the surface all over the channel at the wall. I caught 12 just 2 days ago. Half on lures and half on head on shrimp. But their tails have a blue tint on the tip. This means they are feeding heavily. Just about every trip (2-4) times a week I've caught fish and all have that blue tail. Calaveras has been hot for me. And I don't own a down rigger. I'm still learning the hybrids on the lake, but the times I've found them, caught at least 10 and half would be keepers. And would catch reds in the same place on the same 1oz silver spoon.

They should start migrating out to the main lake in May and June. I'm picking them up but it's tough to run the bottom solo with manual riggers. Need that water to get into the 80s!

Last year, the plant was running all year and I strictly fished the wall and caught limits there consistently. Actually I rarely keep any fish so I'd catch and release well over my limit, well into August. There were a few days where they simply wouldn't be at the wall and trolling would def be the best way to catch them. As far as water temp goes, it should start climbing, the stacks have been blowing smoke the past 2 days. Maybe a sign the plant will run more consistently. But just 3 days ago I caught 12 at the wall and saw large schools pounding the surface all over the channel. Awesome sight! I've seen lots of ppl trolling and picking up hybrids. But they would troll over humps and catch the bottom with manual down riggers. I can see how that would be tough.

If you caught a 24 inch Hybrid it is the lake record. Lake record set last year 22.25 inch long 5.58 pounds. Here is the stats http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/action/waterecords.php?WB_code=0131Sounds like you do real well out there. One of the power plants there will not be used as much this year and it may affect the water temp. We have to see the water temperature in August and September. I hear the city of San Antonio is going to push for more solar power in the near future.

I've seen alot of hybrids as big at the cleaning station honestly. So I never even thought of it was a record lol. But that's great to know lol. I'm not really all that into the records. Usually I'm too worried about getting it off the hook so I can catch another one. Even with the reds, ppl catch bigger than the record here and there but they don't get reported.
Water temp was 80 as of 3 days ago.. And yes I drive by the solar panel farm they are building on 1604 all the time. But lots of rain coming this week might cool it down. Honestly I was catching more fish in the 72-75 degree range.

I would prefer having a bass lake near San Antonio, but that is just my opinion.

Try Dunlap. It's the Guadalupe under I-35.. There are big bass in that lake. They had Thursday night tournies there as well. On bad thing is the ski boats. But it's fun to fish all the boat docks. Biggest I've caught was around 4lbs but I've seen bigger on other reports and forums.

I'll bet he just poured the beer in the water and the fish jumped into the kayak ;-)
Back in the day we used to buy a case of Lonestar longnecks for $2.99 with the returnable bottles...memories of many a day out at Lake Travis.
Nice fish!!

Back in the day people drank two brands. Lonestar and Pearl! There were those few that par took of such odd brands as Falstaff and Jax but back in those days you just asked the waitress for a beer and usually they'd bring you a Lonestar unless you specifically ask for one of the others.
Just one more cast!

Grew up drinking Lone Star Beer. My Dad worked for Lone Star Brewery for 26 years, and when we wanted a Keg of beer all I had to do was call the bottle shop, ask for my dad, he would have it waiting on the dock for pick-up. Back then a Keg of beer was 16 gallons. Man do I remember those days!! Nice fish by the way.
