So, had a OK evening. Had about 10 fish on the stringer, then looked down to see 2 juvenile water moccasins nosing around in my fish, and at one point saw one with his mouth over the head of one of my fish. Pretty sure a couple fish were bitten. Got home and only one was dead, but just wasn't comfortable taking the risk of feeding these to my family. Anyone know for sure if it's safe to eat these or not?

Fishing - the art of loitering in and around bodies of water in an attempt to obtain food under false pretenses

Boating - hours of pleasure interrupted by moments of sheer panic

It's safe to eat cooked. Unless you want to eat it raw.

All water snakes are not venomous. Only a rattlemouthcottonmoccasin is. Most are banded or yellow bellied common water snakes.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Snake venom only works if it enters the bloodstream directly. Plus high heat breaks down the enzymes.

If YOU are uncomfortable then don`t take them home the decision is up to YOU and no one else. How are you sure it was a cottonmouth? Most people see a snake in the water and immediately see it as a Moccasin.Do a little research and you will be more definitive the next time you see a snake in the water.

You can actually drink venom if no open sores or ulcers. You can trust me, I'm on the internet.
