I have finally managed to destroy 2 of my favorite rods. They were both fiberglass spinning rods: 5'3" Eagle Claw model LWLW "ultralight worm rods." Now I need to replace them with graphite substitutes, and I have absolutely no idea where to start. I want rods no longer than 5'6". Suggestions, please.

I'm not familiar with that model but recently bought a Eagle Claw 6' Power Light and so far I like it very well but it's longer than what you were looking for. When you say worm rod are you talking about live worms or plastic?

I've been looking at a Gander Mountain Vortex 5'6" ultra light that I may try.

Thanks for your reply, Wade. I mean plastic. The little rods I broke were light in weight, but strong in backbone. I have emailed Eagle Claw the same question I posted here, but they haven't responded yet. Unfortunately, all of the ultralight rods I see are "fairy wands" with not enough backbone to set a worm hook. I'll check out the Vortex - Thanks again.

Well I don't know if the Vortex will have enough backbone to set a worm hook. I looked at it in the store near me about a month ago but wasn't really thinking about it from that stand point and from what I can remember it was a fairly typical ultra light action. I'd be interested in knowing what you find that would suit that purpose.

The Bass Pro Shops 5'6" Micro Lite medium-fast rod with fast action is made from a blank that's about right. I might have to buy one, strip it down, replace the handle, and re-wrap it with spinning guides. I sure hate to do that with a $50 rod, but I'll have to if I can't find the right rod or blank elsewhere.
