What does a line conditioner contain that can safely alter the chemical make up of the line making it softer with less memory? And if this stuff really does work, what are the long term effects of spaying a chemical capable of permiating the line? Any adverse effects? Is it a use it once, use it for the life of the line kinda thing?

Get you a bottle and you can read what it contains. If it is not on the label,do some research to find out.
Spray some on your line and you can test it out for yourself.
How long term do you plan on having line on your reel?
Adverse effects,,,you can tell us after you test it out.
It would be a one time use item if you decided you did not like it.
If it worked well for you then I would assume you would use it on other reels, therefore it would be more than just a one time use product.

Hope this helps with your questions.

What better way to know if a product works or not than to test it out yourself.

I use the KVD line conditioner and like it, but I have no idea if someone else would like it or not.
You have to use it to know if you like it or not.

Agree on testing it for yourself but I believe the question was what is in the stuff. I looked at a bottle of KVD and nowhere is there a list chemical composition on the label. The Google machine even had a hard time producing a suitable answer. My conclusion is it must be magic.

I conducted 10 minutes worth of internet analysis (Google) and feel that I am now a certified line conditioner expert. I have concluded that many line conditioners use some sort of silicone/ water mixture to help reduce drag and protect the line by displacing water. KVD doesn't use silicone as it states on the bottle but doesn't list what it is in the stuff.

Actually every sentence in his post was a question.

So there you have it....It must be magic...line magic.... not to be confused with Reel Magic.

Just use 100% silicon. Pretty much that's all that line conditioner does is put a layer of Silicon on the line to help it repel water. After all, water absorbing in the line is what degrades it. Been using 100% silicon for years and it works wonders. Tried KVD once and I personally Couldn't tell a difference.

You guys are fun ....

i ask questions to see if anyone knows what that [censored] is you're spraying on your reels. Lol

"Line conditioner"... Haha. I'll just respool if the line gets too old and full of memory. I use magnesium reels and they aren't safe for use in saltwater or "brackish" water. I probably shouldn't spray a unknown chemical on them either.
